The VAPA Foundation believes that an education infused with the arts transforms the lives of young people. Read on to learn about the work we do to connect students in the San Diego Unified School District with VAPA -- visual and performing arts.
We know now that the governor and San Diego Unified School District have decided that school will begin this year via 100% online learning. While no one wants this for our children, we know that this decision will protect children, their families, and school staff from the spread of COVID-19.
Without students being able to attend school in person, the socio-emotional health of our city’s children is in jeopardy. We at the VAPA (Visual And Performing Arts) Foundation believe that the arts can help students get through this difficult time. But we’re really concerned that so many of our underserved students don’t have access to art supplies. It’s quite possible that thousands of children have gone months since using a crayon.
We have an immediate need to raise as much as $500,000 to purchase art supplies--crayons, watercolors, markers, scissors, paper and glue sticks--for our elementary students and specialty items for our secondary students. Will you help us out today by donating what you can? $500 will provide art supplies for an entire class, while $20 will buy a kit that will keep a child busy creating joyful artwork for months. How many children can you help today?
