This summer, we also had the joy of hosting Multi-Arts summer camps at three other schools; Bell Middle School, Challenger Middle School, and Creative Performing Media Arts Middle School. One of our arts organization partners, Malashock Dance, had a unique and powerful project for students.
In “You Are Here” dance summer camp, students learned how to interview their families and each other, record and mix those audio files with music, and design choreography that expresses the story told in the interviews. The outcome was an introspective experience where students became artists. They used their hopes, dreams, and lives as inspiration for crafting multi-media performances.
