Due to current requirements of social distancing and stay at home orders The Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Foundation has announced its second annual “Spotlight gala, Beyond Brilliance … Spotlight on Dynamic Young Artists,” originally set to take place at The Conrad in La Jolla, will now become a virtual event. The date of the event remains as April 18, at 6 p.m. and the community is invited to enjoy this virtual experience by visiting https://www.facebook.com/VAPAFoundSD/.
“We are excited to host this virtual event on through Facebook Live and invite you to tune in on this evening to show your support for our city’s children,” said Doreen Schonbrun, co-chair of the gala. “We will feature incredible student performances and artwork to show you why the work of the VAPA Foundation is so important and deserving of your financial support.”
The VAPA Foundation provides funding for enhanced arts education for all students at SDUSD schools, specifically projects and materials that are outside of a school’s budget. Proceeds from the benefit will support enhanced arts education programs for all students at SDUSD schools.
“The VAPA Foundation touches the lives of thousands of students, teachers, parents, community members, and stakeholders,” said Schonbrun. “The organization’s enhancement program connects teachers with artists, professional development programs, and materials that up the arts quotient in classrooms throughout the district. The learning potential for students exposed to the visual performing arts is extraordinary. With San Diego Unified schools currently being closed, the need for arts education and funding is greater than ever.”
The not-for-profit VAPA Foundation enhances the quality of and access to arts education in the San Diego Unified School District through the VAPA Enhancement Program, Honor Concerts, Recognitions, Collaborations, and Program Development, where needed.
